Obama makes me proud, too. Can you imagine the situation we would be in if, alternatively, John McCain were president? He publicly admitted he didn't know much about economics. Or, worse, Sarah Palin?

Really, there also is no Republican now in the running for 2012 who looks like a plausible candidate to me.
